On Monday, November 21st, Central Cambria welcomed an incredible speaker, Brad Hurtig. As a sophomore in high school, Brad was in a traumatic factory accident, causing him to lose both of his hands. Sports were a major part of his life, so it was hard for Brad to cope with practically relearning everything he knew about football. One day at football practice, Brad asked his coach to pick up his water bottle so he could get a drink, but his coach did not listen to him. He said that if he wanted a drink, he would find a way, and he did just that. Brad got on his knees, picked up the bottle between his arms and took a large gulp of water. With love and support from his family, friends, and coaches, and with his faith in God and himself, Brad overcame one of his biggest obstacles. By his senior year, he was the starting linebacker on his high school football team and received many awards for his accomplishments in sports. Brad’s inspiring presentation taught us that when life gets tough, do not give up. You can always find a way.
