Broadcast Students Visit WJAC

On Monday, March 6, 2017, junior and senior students enrolled in the Broadcast Journalism class had the opportunity to visit WJAC-TV in Johnstown to explore the many facets that are included in creating a newscast. These students had the opportunity to use a green screen to report the weather, attend a morning meeting to discuss the news stories and assignments for the day, discuss reporting with investigative reporters, producers, and anchors, and watch Tim Rigby, Lindsay Ward, and Mary Ours live record the noon news. News Director, Jim Platzer, spent the day with the students, giving them a complete tour of the studio, editing rooms, and different departments within the company, and answering any questions students had throughout the day. For students considering pursuing a degree in Journalism and/ or Communications, this experience offered a first-hand account of the life of a reporter, producer, director, etc, and gave students a memorable hands-on opportunity.
