Music in our Schools Month

Music is such an important part of life. Music inspires. This March, we at the elementary schools celebrated Music In Our Schools Month in a big way. We had a musical spirit week where each day was a different type of music that you could dress to and talk about. Monday was Rock and Roll Day. Students were encouraged to wear neon colors and tease their hair like they were a rock star. Tuesday was Blues Day. We celebrated this not-as-well-known style of music by wearing all blue. Wednesday as a fan favorite, Country Music Day. Students were dress to the nines in their finest county outfits. Thursday was a Day at the Opera. Students wore their dressiest clothes. One student at CES even wore a dress that she sewed herself! Friday was Classical Music Day where students wore a classic white t-shirt.

Each morning started with facts about each music genre. The fun facts were accompanied by a sample of the music played over the loud speaker played at the beginning and end of the day. Students had a great time learning about each genre as well as dressing in different styles. In general music classes, we had each student color a music note and put their name on it. We then put the music notes on a bulletin board with a grand staff to show how together we make a beautiful musical masterpiece.

The love of the arts is unconditional in our community and that is reflected in our programs at all levels from elementary through high school. Music inspires students to be the best that they can be. It teaches creativity as well as discipline and it expands students minds in areas such as language, math, science and reading. We are so fortunate to have an administration and a community that supports the arts and we wanted to take the time to recognize our great fortune.
